E-Learning with Blackboard
Blackboard is a flexible, easy to use virtual learning environment (VLE) for teaching and learning over the Internet. Tutors can publish module descriptions, staff information, assignments, reading lists and links to useful websites.
We use Blackboard to support our modules, both those that are delivered face to face and those delivered at a distance. We also use Blackboard to support other aspects of your studies. You will see a list of all the Blackboard sites you are enrolled on and will be able to access these sites through shuspace.
Once you are enrolled on Pathways, you will be enrolled on the organisation site on Blackboard. This is the main community area where you will find forms, SHU rules & regulations, contact information and support. Here you can communicate with other students on the programme.
You will also be enrolled on a module site for each module that you are studying. Module sites contain information related to learning materials, resources and assignments. You will communicate here with fellow students and tutors through discussion boards, group areas and virtual classrooms.
The Student Portal, shuspace, is your main route to information and services provided by the University, including specific online resources for the modules you study. You will need a username and password to gain access. This will be provided when you enrol on Pathways.
From shuspace you can access all the facilities provided by the University. These include career advice and guidance, support for disabled students, the students union, support for International students and counselling support.
