Interdisciplinary and cross year course Mentoring and Integration

Overview

The project aims to provide an enhanced student experience for students of 'engineering design technology' and 'electronics and control' through the integration of carefully identified final year projects with taught courses in the first and second years. The rationale for this integration is the fact that the vast majority of engineering products now involve interdisciplinary expertise.

The structure of the integrated projects aims to provide benefits for all the students involved. The final year project students will benefit from skills and expertise outside their own subject area provided by 1st and 2nd year students in complementary subject areas. The 1st and 2nd years will benefit from having a 'real world' problem to work with and also through working with final year students. Further benefits will include enhancement of project and people management skills for the final year students through working with others. The lower year students will gain an understanding of other disciplines from interaction with peers.
