Pupils were asked to project themselves 50 years into the future to the year 2053 to discover the breakthroughs that advances in DNA technology might bring.
At a ‘Press Briefing’ for all pupils a ‘journalist’, explained how to write an article for the ‘Planet News’ and gather the facts at a press conference. After dividing into their workshop groups, pupils were given a summary sheet with hints for asking key questions during the press conference.
At the press conference, facilitators took on the role of scientists of the future by presenting a ‘breakthrough application’ of DNA technology. For example ‘Prehistoric theme park to open’. With the aid of a library of titles, side-boxes, graphics, and writing frames, they then worked in small groups to prepare their ‘front page’ article in one hour. |
