Software for use with DAOL

DAOL makes use of a range of 'digital document' formats. These range from web pages (HTML) to 'print format' documents (pdf) as well as the option for authors to include audio, visual and graphical elements.

Web Browsers

DAOL papers and discussions are displayed using HTML diplayed in a 'framed' interface. To make the most of this you will need to have an up to date web browser. In some cases you may need to check with your systems or technical support before upgrading. If this is not the case or you are using your own personal machine we suggest the following three browsers for use with DAOL:

Netscape Communicator 4.7x

Netscape 6.2
http://home.netscape.com/browsers/6/index.html

Internet Explorer 6

PDF files

DAOL papers and attached discussions are also available as 'prtable document format' files. These are formated for A4 printing in a standerd journal format. To view these files you will need a PDF reader.

Adobe Acrobat Reader

Multimedia files

Multimedia (audio and visual media) files come in a range of formats. If a paper makes use of one of these you will need the supporting software (plugins) for your browser to display them. These may already be installed but we suggest that you upgrade to the newest versions of the following:

Macromedia Flash
