Sheffield was the first city to be designated National City of Sport by the Sports Council. The city boasts many international class facilities including Ponds Forge International Sports Centre for swimming and diving and Sheffield Ski Village, Europe's largest artificial ski resort. For those who prefer watching to participating, Sheffield is home to several top sports teams including basketball, football, ice hockey, rugby and speedway.
