Project

About the Study

The Training and Development Agency for Schools (TDA) wishes to explore how far the supply of newly qualified teachers (NQTs) meets the needs of employers and the profession. The study will consider how far high quality NQTs are attracted, supported and retained and the effectiveness of recruitment, induction and development processes. The TDA has commissioned a team at Sheffield Hallam University to identify the needs of senior leadership teams and to gather their views on these areas. The project will run for three years.

Why be involved in the project?

It will:
  • help schools review and reflect on their practices in recruiting and developing NQTs, providing evidence for the self evaluation forms (SEF) of their commitment to this agenda and of their involvement with the sector
  • contribute to the performance management systems in school, providing evidence for this
  • help NQTs by enhancing their reflective processes to support the NQT review and transition points
  • support the retention of high quality NQTs
