SINTO 2.0 - the SINTO online

community of practice

SINTO has developed an online community of practice for all SINTO members and library staff in our area. This is intended as a useful tool and also an exemplar of Library 2.0 applications.

A community of practice is a forum in which people can receive and share information of interest to them. The SINTO community is focused on training and CPD for library and information staff, news about library and information services in our area and general information about matters of professional interest.

The community is based on a number of social networking tools. These are our website, wiki, blog, Twitter account and Facebook page. This is deliberate overkill! By using all these tools individuals can select the one they prefer and they can also explore the different tools to see how they work. Libraries can evaluate them to decide if they want to use these tools for themselves.

All library and information staff in the Yorkshire and East Midlands area are invited to use these tools to keep themselves up to date with the activities of SINTO and professional issues of interest to our region. You are also invited to contribute by providing feedback and comments.

Library and information services are also invited to use the community of practice as part of their corporate information plan and to provide information about new projects and developments to the local LIS community.

Have a look yourself – I hope you will find it of interest and will consider how it could be developed.
