Networking
One of the roles of SINTO is to encourage and support networking between library and information staff in the region.
Networking is a powerful professional tool. By bringing staff from different libraries together, networking supports individual professional development and, through informal benchmarking, the improvement of library services.
SINTO supports networking through the following tools.
Members' Directories
SINTO provides its Members with two Directories each year in April:
SINTO General Networking Directory.
This Directory gives the contact details for, and describes service and subject coverage of, SINTO member organisation.
SINTO ILL Scheme Directory: This Directory lists Inter Library Loan (ILL) Contacts for each organisation or site for the purpose of making requests for loans or photocopies through the SINTO Inter Library Loan Scheme.
Each Directory is available in two formats: Word Documents (one for each Directory); An Access Database (includes both Directories). The Directories can be supplied on floppy disk or CD Rom. Order forms are sent out to Member organisations each year, but if you need extra copies, you can use the Directory Order Form.

Special Interest Groups
Special Interest Groups bring together staff from different libraries with a common interest. Any SINTO member organisation can nominate a representative for these groups. Members keep in touch by e-mail or hold meetings.

Members' Forum
The role of the SINTO Members' Forum is to explore and debate issues of interest, and to represent the views of SINTO Member organisations. All Member organisations can send a representative to Forum meetings.

The Group is responsible for monitoring and evaluating the SYALL Agreement, publicity and training.

Business Information Group
A forum for libraries and information services that provide a business information service to the local business community. Its role is to enable networking and the exchange of information, consider strategic issues and promote continuing professional development. This Group oversees the operation of the SINTO Inter Library Loan (ILL) Scheme.

Training Group
This Group has overall responsibility for all SINTO training and Continuing Professional Development activities. Its aim is to coordinate and promote existing activities and to identify and provide for unmet needs. See Forthcoming Training Events.

On-line Community of Practice
A community of practice is a forum in which people can receive and share information of interest to them. The SINTO on-line community is focused on training and CPD for library and information staff, news about library and information services in our area and general information about matters of professional interest.
The community is based on a number of social networking tools. These are our website, wiki, blog, Twitter account and Facebook page. These can be used for networking and provie an exemplar of Library 2.0 applications.
All library and information staff in the Yorkshire and East Midlands area are invited to use these tools to keep themselves up to date with the activities of SINTO and professional issues of interest to our region. You are also invited to contribute by providing feedback and comments.
Library and information services are also invited to use the community of practice as part of their corporate information plan and to provide information about new projects and developments to the local LIS community.

SINTO Members' Day
The Members' Day is an annual event in June open to staff from all SINTO member organisations. The day celebrates the library and information sector in our region with a series of presentations on issues of professional interest. Details are posted in the list of events.
