The Dronfield Way Relay Home Page

This is a friendly, low key and mildly competitive event appealing to the many club members who enter events mainly for enjoyment and with little hope of being in the leading group of runners. It has been held for every year since 2004. Each team comprises six runners with two on each stage, no one running more than one stage and club colours are worn. A map of the route is available at £2 from Dronfield Library or see www.thewalk.org.uk. Teams are responsible for finding their own way around the route; it is fairly well way marked all the way around. The course is 15 miles in total run clockwise from, and returning, to Holmsfield. The first changeover in 5.25 miles is in the playing fields behind the community centre at Coal Aston. The second changeover in 4.65 miles is near Unstone on the B6057 Dronfield to Chesterfield Road, leaving 4.6 miles uphill to the finish. See results from 2004 to 2011>>

Details of the next Dronfield Way Relay to be held in July 2012

Start: Holmesfield at 10.00am
Distance: Total 15 miles, each leg 5 miles approx. Mainly on footpaths and bridleways.
Teams: 6 runners, 2 on each leg who must run together.
Entries: Non Striders teams should register their team by contacting Doug by emailing doug.thomson@virgin.net or phoning 01246 411158. Members of Steel City Striders will have the choice of running for a gueat team or joining one of the Stiders teams which will be selected to be as equal as possible. Every Strider who registers an interest in participating will be accommodated in one of the Striders teams.
Entry fee: Non-Striders teams - £10 per team; Striders teams - free
Maps: There is a published map of the route, see www.thewalk.org.uk.
Recce: Runners who are new to this event are recommended to do a recce run in advance. Striders have a training run around the course in the weeks leading to the event.
Start: Behind the Angel Inn on Holmesfield Main Road (next to the church). Car parking available there for recce runs only but not on Sunday mornings as it is used by the church. On race day, cars approaching from Sheffield will be marshalled to the right off the main road to park in the public car park by the Village Hall. Please arrive by 09:30 to register and pick up your race number.
Changeover 1: By the swings in the recreation ground behind the Royal Oak pub on Eckington Road, Coal Aston. Please park in the lower car park behind Coal Aston Village Hall.
Changeover 2: Just after the big lay-by on the main road between Dronfield and Unstone. Incoming runners finish on reaching the road and outgoing runners start from the opposite side so that there is no road crossing involved during the changeover.
Finish: Behind the George & Dragon pub in Holmesfield (opposite the Angel Inn).
Toilets: A bit tricky! The two public toilets in Dronfield were closed a few years ago to save money. There are toilets in the Sports Centre and Sainsbury’s supermarket on Wreakes Lane (from 10.00 onwards), neither are directly on the route.
Post race social: Beer & buffet at the George & Dragon (or, if not, another pub in neighbourhood). Buffet at 1.00 pm
