Team Striders is a concept aimed to try and promote a ‘Whole Club’ approach to participation in competitive events, irrespective of ability.
Competitive events offer a range of benefits to the complete spectrum of runners. Whether you need a target to keep you motivated when training, have a desire to experience being part of a running event, or wish to test yourself against other runners in your age group, competitive running can be both enjoyable, rewarding and provide you with a great sense of achievement.
The Team Striders initiative is designed to bring members of the club together to enjoy participation in running events and competitive races. One of the benefits of Striders as a club is that it offers members a range of venues and times for training during the week. The Team Striders initiative aims to bring members from different training nights together to take part in identified Team Striders events as a ‘Whole Club’.

Running in club colours is an important part of the Team Striders ethos. Not only does it allow you to identify other club members at races, it also allows us to raise the profile of the club, ensuring its membership levels remain high. So in addition to the £2 reduction in entry fees enjoyed by all members entering UK Athletics affiliated races, any club member who commits to represent the club at a Team Striders nominated event can purchase 1 club vest a year at a 50% discount.
To claim your club vest e-mail Team Striders Coordinator Richard Maxted with your name and the name of the nominated Team Striders event you will be competing in. He will then notify Eileen Ludlow, the Club Kit Coordinator that you qualify for the discount.
If the Team Striders concept proves popular we will look at rewarding those competing regularly with further discounted kit.
So whether you’re a social runner and enjoy the experience of taking part in running events, an improving runner who would like to map improvement by comparing times over a number of races, or a competitive runner who wants to make sure you staying ahead of others in your age category, join the Team.
Road Race Championships 2011
I am delighted to announce the fixtures for the 2011 Road Race Championships. There are some new races in this years schedule as the existing races had been quite static for sometime. The single fell and cross country fixtures have been removed in recognition of the separate Fell Race Championships and the fact that the cross country race was an anomaly in what is a Road Race Championship. New fixtures include the Chesterfield Spire 10km in August, the Penistone 10km and the Cusworth Hall 10km in September and different races within the South Yorkshire 5 mile series to make the most of the new venues announced for this year. One of the key benefits to the new fixtures is their timings. The 2011 dates for the traditional fixtures were very bunched; with the introduction of the new races the 2011 schedule now looks more evenly spread throughout the year. I hope you enjoy it. Good luck to all club members who take part. I would encourage as many Striders as possible to take part in any of the races listed and I welcome feedback on the scheduled races at the end of the season to inform the plan for 2012. ....see full details>>
