Striders Training Sessions Home Page
The club offers a variety of opportunities for club members to train with others runners from within the club and from other local running clubs.
Weekly road training sessions are organised from a range of venues across the city each week. Sessions on Monday and Wednesday evenings are well supported and typically consist of training runs on road in the winter months and off road in the summer evenings. Road training also takes place from four less well supported venues some Thursdays and Fridays during the year.
The track & speed sessions on Thursday evenings are becoming increasingly popular and consist of a pre-determined and structured session. The Thursday sessions are open to members of all local running clubs. Members of Steel City Striders are also invited to a tough track session at Don Valley Stadium on Tuesday evenings.
The 'Special' Runs have proved popular since 1986. They are off road training runs organised on an adhoc basis and held typically on Sunday mornings, mid week evenings and on New Year's Eve. They include the winter sunday runs, the winter off road night runs and the summer evening runs on the outskirst of the city. Typically they are 8 to 12 miles in length. The dates and venues are announced in Striders News, via email or text to members and on this page. Over the years we have sometimes been joined by members of other clubs and we always extend a warm welcome to members of any club who wish to join us for the run.
Members are encouraged to use the training venues as they form the backbone of the club. There is a small charge at all venues for the use of the changing facilities and/or the track with the exception of the Specials as there are usually no changing facilites as such. New and prospective members are welcome to come along to any of the training sessions though the training sessions from the two main venues Heeley Baths and Graves Tennis Centre every Monday and Wednesday evening respectively are the best starting point within the club.
