The second Chain Reaction Express Yourself national student conference took place at Sheffield Hallam University on Wednesday March 18th 2015. Nearly 200 school students attended from Eckington School, Bradfield School, Mexborough School and Winterhill School. Research presentations were delivered by the students demonstrating findings and conclusions from work such as ‘plants in space’ and ‘volcanoes on Mars.’
The standard of presentations was of a very high quality and all of the students proved themselves to be not only strong ambassadors for their schools but strong scientists representing their science departments. Invited guests were able to discuss the students work during breaks in presentations and were also able to observe the high quality poster presentations in the main hall at SHU.
Role models, who have been working with the schools during their inquiry work, judged the presentations and found it a very difficult job to select one group to represent the UK at the Chain Reaction International research student conference to be held in Heidelberg, Germany in May. A split decision saw girls from Bradfield school very narrowly edge out girls from Eckington school who were worthy runners-up.
Bradfield will now have a short period to hone their research and polish their presentations before making the trip to Heidelberg. We wish them the very best of luck.
