Working in partnership to increase the number of young people progressing to higher education
HeppSY+ builds on the work of the existing Higher Education Progression Partnership (Hepp) involving Sheffield Hallam University, the University of Sheffield and the South Yorkshire colleges of further education.
HeppSY+ programme activity will span three academic years from September 2017 to summer 2020 (subject to review in 2018), during which time we expect to:
- increase the capacity of other widening participation work
- provide opportunities for creativity and innovation
- build relationships and help to extend existing networks
We use a range of ‘widening participation’ activities to engage with our target demographics – young people in Year 9 upwards in specific parts of South Yorkshire and neighbouring areas. Our work is focused on those capable young people most at risk of choosing not to go on to higher education.
We have asked our target schools and colleges to draw up their own action plans to encompass existing ‘widening participation’ initiatives they value. We will also be signposting schools and colleges to existing support available from universities and other partners.
Please get in touch with us to let us know what you are doing in this area.
