The 'Adopt-an-Author' scheme offers an exciting opportunity
for students at Sheffield Hallam University - third-year English undergraduates and Master's degree-level students (MA
English Studies) - to conduct original research using the Corvey
collection which is housed in the SHU library. Students
who take the relevant module 'adopt' a little-known author from the Corvey archive
and undertake to produce: a biographical essay,
synopses of two of her texts, an account of the contemporary literary
and critical reception of these works, and a critical essay which aims, at
some level, to locate the author's oeuvre in relation to the established
literary landscape of the period.
Under the guidance of members of the Corvey team, 'adopt-an-author'
students learn to conduct original research using both new digital and
traditional library and archive resources. By the end of the module
the students have become 'experts' on their chosen author and, through
the publication of their work on the Corinne
website, their work is made available to scholars and enthusiasts
worldwide.
