Evaluating STEM initiatives

None of us need reminding that we are in a new, more challenging era. We know that a world class economy must be built on a bed rock of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) excellence. But we need to make our voices heard more than ever.

To be listened to, we need solid evidence. Yet STEM evaluations have not, to date, given us this strong, coherent evidence base. This is something the Science and Innovation Observatory seeks to address.

On April 5th 2011, we convened a workshop of STEM evaluators, policy makers and practitioners to consider how we can make STEM evaluations work better. Since then we have conducted further analysis of STEM evaluations and reviewed cutting edge approaches to evaluation. We have produced a briefing entitled Evaluating STEM initiatives, which you can download below.
