Operation

On starting the machine, the air which is present in the cylinder should be expelled via the air release valve. This is done by unscrewing the knurled screw approximately one turn, waiting until a steady flow of material is effected through the hole in the centre and then returning the screw to the dead stop position. The machine will now commence pumping. In the case of glutinous or high viscosity material, it may be necessary to prime the inlet valve by means of a thin rod, which should be lightly pressed down the hole in the base of the tank or hopper, if fitted. This should not be done while the machine is operating

Pressure adjustment is carried out by means of the control knob. Pressure up to a maximum of 1000 lbs per square inch can be obtained but the most suitable pressure is determined by the operator and the experiment being undertaken

A safety device is incorporated by means of the pressure relief valve. Should a stoppage occur in the jet, or the pressure in the cylinder exceed 2OO lbs per square inch above the maximum working pressure of the machine, the relief valve opens and allows the material to return to the suction side of the inlet valve
