RULES AND REGULATIONS
1. FIXTURES
The named Team Organiser will be responsible for ensuring that her team fulfils all the fixtures at the correct times and for advising his players of their match times/dates. If for any reason, a team cannot fulfil a fixture, the League Hallam Co-ordinator should be informed at least 3 days in advance. Failure to turn up for a match at the stated time will result in an automatic 15-0 defeat, deduction of 1 point and fined the match fee. If a team fails to turn up 2 weeks in succession or three times in the season they will be withdrawn from the league. It is not possible to rearrange any fixtures. Please note that the Reserve Date for Postponed fixtures is only used when the pitch is unplayable and teams are not able to use them to postpone matches.
All matches will take place in the Sports Hall at Collegiate Crescent Campus, accessible from Broomgrove Road.
2. SQUAD
Teams can name a squad of up to 10 players, all of whom can play during a match. Only 7 players may play at any one time; however teams can use up to 3 substitutions. Players may only play for one team in the Competition.
For 2008/09 players do not need to be Sport Hallam members. All questions of eligibility of players or interpretation of the rules should be referred to the opposing team captain, or in the final instance, to the League Hallam Co-ordinator at SRS, whose decision shall be final.
3. MATCH TIME
Each match will be four 8 minute halves, with 1 minute rest after each quarter. Teams will be allowed 5 minutes warm up before each match. All matches must start at the stated time. Team Captains must check in and pay their £10 match fee at the Pearson Building before playing their match. Please ensure you allow time before your match to do this.
4. PLAYING KIT AND NETBALLS
All players within a team must wear appropriate training kit and footwear (training shoes).
Netballs and Bibs will be provided by SRS and the umpire will collect and return the ball and bibs to the reception desk in the Pearson Building.
5. SUMMARY OF RULES
COURT AREAS
- Offside: Player moving out of own area, with or without ball.
- Over a Third: Ball may not be thrown over two transverse lines without being touched.
- Out of court: Ball is out of court when it contacts anything outside the court area. The ball is returned into play by a Throw-In from outside the line where the ball left the court. The player stands with foot close to line and ball must be thrown into the court within three seconds. Foot contact with the line is considered a foul throw.
PLAYING THE GAME
Starting or restarting the game:
Centre passes are taken alternately by the Centre, after a goal has been scored. All players must start in the goal thirds except the two centres. The centre with the ball starts with either one or both feet in the Centre circle (if on foot, then the other must not have contact with the ground outside the centre circle) and must obey the footwork rule after the whistle has blown. The opposing centre stands anywhere within the centre third and is free to move. The centre pass must be caught or touched by a player in or landing or jumping from a stance in the centre third.
Playing The Ball:
A player who has caught the ball shall play it or shoot for goal within three seconds.
A player may bounce or bat the ball once to gain control.
Once released, the ball must next be touched by another player.
There must be room for a third player between the hands of thrower and catcher.
A player on the ground must stand up before playing the ball.
Footwork:
Having caught the ball, a player may land on:
ONE foot- while the landing foot remains grounded, the second foot may be moved anywhere any number of times, pivoting on the landing foot if desired. Once the landing foot is lifted, it must not be re-grounded until the ball is released.
TWO feet (simultaneously) – once one foot is moved, the other is considered to be the landing foot as above. Hopping or dragging the landing foot is not allowed.
Scoring a Goal:
Only the GS or GA may shoot from completely within the circle.
Toss up:
This is administered for simultaneous infringements. The two players stand facing each other at their own shooting ends with hands by their sides and the umpire flicks the ball upwards not more than 0.6m (2ft) in the air as the whistle is blown.
Obstruction:
Player with the ball: the nearer foot of the defender must be 0.9m (3ft) from the landing foot of the player with the ball, or the spot where the first foot had landed if one has been lifted. The defender may jump to intercept or defend the ball from this 0.9m (3ft) distance.
Player without the ball:
The defender may be close, but not touching, providing that no effort is made to intercept or defend the ball and there is no interference with the opponents throwing or shooting action. Arms must be in a natural position, not outstretched and no other part of the body or legs may be used to hamper an opponent.
Intimidation:
Of any kind is classed as an obstruction
A standing player is not compelled to move to allow an opponent a free run, but dangerous play must be discouraged, e.g. moving into landing space of a player already in the air or stepping late into the path of a moving player.
Contact:
No player may contact an opponent either accidentally or deliberately in such a way that interferes with play of that opponent or causes contact to occur.A penalty pass/shot is awarded for the above infringements taken where it has occurred.
The offending payer must stand out of play beside the thrower until the pass or shot has been taken. Any opposing player allowed in that area may take the penalty.
Captains should toss a coin to decide ends after that centre passes will be taken alternately preceding a goal.
