Case Study 1: Students' Understanding of Social and Moral Responsibility

Introduction

What has happened to young people's attitudes to moral behaviour? In the absence of community and family many young people lose the connectedness that gives them the sensitivities, motivation and skills needed to assist in caring for other human beings. Is it due to a lack of confidence? Is it apathy?

According to some sources, developing a civic commitment in young people or developing a nurturing character means reconnecting them with their community, providing them with the basic social skills to negotiate their differences with others and teaching them that they can make a difference.

Learners can find the answers to some of these questions by studying the resources.
