    shows increased participation and continued high levels of satisfaction among higher education students.
  • Adult Learners - New Website Offers Transparency to Adult Learners Returning to College (PR Newswire, 4 Aug 2009)
    A consortium of adult-serving colleges and universities has launched a new initiative aimed at adult learners seeking better information in choosing an institution offering degrees through distance education.
  • Apprenticeships - Low-paid apprentices receive welcome pay boost (TUC, 4 Aug 2009)
    The lowest paid apprentices should receive a boost this week as the minimum pay rate for apprenticeships increases from £80 to £95 a week, the TUC says today (Tuesday).
  • Further Education - MPs urge students to take maths or science for better job prospects (The Evening Standard, 3 Aug 09)
    Sixth-formers were warned to choose their university courses more carefully amid fears that dumbed-down degrees will fail to win them jobs.

  • Health and Social Care - NHS apprenticeships to boost jobs for young people (Department of Health, 27 July 09)
    NHS organisations will receive a total of £25 million to create 5,000 new NHS apprenticeships by March 2010, Health Secretary Andy Burnham announced today.
  • Skills - Ed Balls announces regional funding for ‘School Leavers Guarantee’ (DCSF, 27 July 09)
    To fulfil the Government’s ‘September Guarantee’ for school leavers during the recession, £655m of extra funding was announced in the Budget to provide an extra 55,000 places in sixth forms, colleges and training for 16-18 year olds this year and next year.
