EMLS was founded in 1995 under the editorship of Ray Siemens. Since 1999, it has been based at Sheffield Hallam University, under the editorship of Lisa Hopkins (1999-2005); Matthew Steggle (2005-2011); and Matthew Steggle and Annaliese Connolly (2011-present).
