The IBMS is the professional body for biomedical scientists in the United Kingdom. It aims to promote and develop the role of biomedical science within healthcare to deliver the best possible service for patient care and safety.
Individuals awarded a Masters degree accredited by the Institute of Biomedical Sciences are eligible for the title of Chartered Scientist and the designation CSci if they meet the other eligibility criteria of corporate membership and active engagement in CPD.
A Masters level qualification is also one of the entry criteria for the Institute’s Higher Specialist Examination and award of the Higher Specialist Diploma, a pre-requisite for the membership class of Fellowship and designation FIBMS.
Please Note: An IBMS accredited MSc IS NOT a suitable qualification for HPC registration, and students applying for assessment of their qualifications by the IBMS may find they are asked to undertake further supplementary education in key pathology disciplines.

Enrolment:

All students must formally enrol onto their chosen course as this is the official contract between you and the University. In the few weeks before your course starts you will be sent information from the University about how to enrol onto your course. Details of how you will enrol are below.

What will happen and when

Once you have received an "unconditional firm" offer from the University, you will receive a pre-arrival pack which contains information about starting your course including accommodation information.

If you've applied for accommodation, allocations are made from June and the Accommodation Office will contact you with details.

Web chats with teaching staff will be available around June and July through this site - this will give you a chance to discuss your course with your lecturer. Details of the web chats will follow soon.
