About Sheffield

City of Leisure

Sheffield is the leisure capital of its region, with the largest theatre complex outside London, including the Crucible, famous as the venue for the Embassy World Snooker Championships and the English Squash Championships. The city also boasts diverse concert and show venues such as the Victorian City Hall and the modern Sheffield Arena and Don Valley Stadium.

Lyceum and Crucible Theatres

The continuing regeneration of the city centre has brought exciting new developments such as the Peace Gardens, the Millennium Galleries and the Winter Garden, all of which are within a few minutes walk of the conference venue, and well worth a visit. Opened in December 2002, the Winter Garden is the largest temperate glasshouse in any European city centre, housing a superb display of more than 2,500 exotic plants from around the globe. The Daily Telegraph described it as “the Palm House at Kew meets the Galleria in Milan”.

Sheffield Cathedral

Sheffield is a shopper's paradise! The city centre offers everything from major department stores to specialist retailers, whilst Meadowhall, just a short tram ride out of the city, is one of Europe's finest shopping and leisure malls, attracting over 30 million visitors a year.
